About Mike

Representative Mike Thompson is a family man, public servant and small businessman whose conservative values have made him a leader in stopping government waste, opposing taxes, and creating jobs for Oklahomans. His positive energy has made him a rising star in the Oklahoma Legislature and the conservative choice for Congress.

First elected in 2004 with over sixty-nine percent of the vote, Mike was overwhelmingly reelected in 2006 and 2008. Known for his hard work and expertise in the transportation, business and energy fields, he has emerged as one of the foremost conservative policy experts and pro-business voices in the state House.

During his tenure in the Legislature, Mike has fought successfully for tax cuts, called for much needed budget and spending reforms and often opposed his own party over wasteful and excessive government spending. He has also pushed for a comprehensive energy policy that expands domestic exploration for oil and natural gas reserves, championed important pro-life legislation, protected property owners, and advocated school choice and homeschooling.

One of the most conservative members of the state House, Mike has never voted for a tax increase. He is pro-life without apology and is a staunch defender of our gun rights. Mike’s principled leadership has been recognized by conservative groups like the National Rifle Association, Oklahomans for Life, National Federation of Independent Businesses and the Oklahoma State Chamber of Commerce.

Mike is currently the leader in defending Oklahomans against Barack Obama’s unconstitutional and financially devastating federal takeover of healthcare. Mike’s legislation would protect Oklahomans’ constitutional rights and choice in healthcare by allowing citizens to vote to opt out of the federal system.

As our Congressman, Mike will work to repeal ObamaCare and protect our current doctor-patient relationship and the ability to seek out the best healthcare services without fear of punitive federal government intervention.

Mike has fought against wasteful and excessive government spending at the state capitol and his leadership is needed now more than ever to curb an arrogant and out of control federal government.

A consistent champion for cutting waste and reforming government, he’ll lead the charge to repeal the disastrous policies and out of control spending that threaten our solvency and cripple our economy.

Mike’s proven leadership, conservative principles, and unquestioned integrity have earned him the support of business, community and party leaders across Oklahoma. His candidacy brings a new and needed energy to the Conservative cause. Mike believes that we need to get back to basics: less government, lower taxes, personal responsibility, respect for life, protection of our freedoms, and adherence to the Constitution.

The conviction and values which guide Mike’s service as an elected official are rooted in his family and his faith. A strong advocate of limited government, Mike believes that the government works best when it returns dollars, decisions, and freedom to our local communities and families.

Born and raised in Oklahoma City, Mike is a third generation Oklahoman. He worked his way through college at Oklahoma City University, where he earned a Bachelor’s Degree in Business Administration. He later went on to complete his Masters Degree in Public Administration from the University of Oklahoma.

In addition to his service in the Legislature, Mike is a successful small businessman, working in residential and commercial real estate. He currently works with Hocker and Associates, a commercial real estate firm which has been the top producing Coldwell Banker office in Oklahoma for the past nine years.

Mike and his wife, Hayley, met in 8th grade and have been married for ten years. They have two young children, Mitchell and Madelynn, and attend St. Paul’s Lutheran Church in Oklahoma City.
