Still More Questions than Answers
When President Obama addressed the nation last night, he had a chance to make his case directly to the American people. He could have given us details about all of his claims; how his plan could possibly be deficit neutral, how people would be able to keep their own health insurance if they like it, and how more bureaucracy will improve the quality of care.
Unfortunately, he didn’t do any of those things. He stepped back from some of his prior claims and even said he wants to mandate health insurance, an idea he criticized while running for President.
More rhetoric won’t convince Americans they need government run health care. It is time to empower patients and doctors, not federal bureaucrats. By rapidly expanding government and spending trillions upon trillions of dollars, President Obama and the liberal leadership in Congress are taking steps that will prove disastrous to our nation now and in the long run
Help me send a message to Washington: it’s time to stop ObamaCare!
From what understand, once your private insurance makes ANY changes, i.e… Co-pay increases or monthly payments. then YOU must go to the national insurance.
I am un-insured and between my husband and me we are in financial disaster. And to get the medicine to keep my husband alive is a constant worry.
But I don’t a National medical plan to …. Well, make it hard on those that have the luxury of having insurance.
I also worry about the ability to stay the BEST country in the world for medical.
All they while knowing that the richest country SHOULD provide medical to anyone and Everyone of the citizens that make this the BEST country in the world!
I agree our health care system needs to be changed. This is not the way or the man to do it. I don`t trust him or his ulterior motives.
I agree our health care system needs to be changed. This is not the way or the man to do it. I don`t trust him or his ulterior motives. He has hidden agendas.
I feel that redoing a great big option to take care of all of the problems at once is a huge mistake. Everytime the Federal government has created a big new program it has funneled more unnecessary money. When Carter created the Dept of Education $100 billion went into new Washington DC buildings. When Bush started no child left behind, it left behind the good things that Oklahoma teachers were required to do like upgrade their education in favor of a Master TEacher program to get $5000 for each teacher, ignoring our Graduate schools.
Lets fix the problems in Health Care, Outrageous lawsuits for Doctors doing the best they have been trained to do.
LEts make health care required for all employers, lets make Health Insurance companies not be able to contract for cheaper services to their benefit and at the cost of the uninsured and underinsured. Instead of a public option
setup tax advantages for insurance companies that work like credit unions, if a person doesn’t use any Health Care this year put a part on the money into a savings account for future illness not bonuses for Insurance company CEO’s.
Let’s do something about overweight patients, helping them get their weight under control so their health risks are lower, smokers and illegal drug users should be penalized, maybe a mandatory do not resuscitate. Help patients get healthy. Lower costs to employers because of lost time.
Federal Government wants to help those with exorbitant costs then help families with MS, MD.
Send a bill to the Canadian and Mexican governements to Healthcare provided for illegal and legal citizens of other countries.
Shorten the period for patents on drugs. Quit letting drug companies and Medical equipment companies give gifts like golf clubs, cruises, etc. to doctors and hospital administrators. Send the sales people that perpetuate this
gift giving to prison not our doctors. Doctors who get charged with felonies become prison doctors.
And absolutely, no insurance for legal or illegal aliens who have not dedicated themselves to becoming American citizens, if they want Healthcare let them go home or pay the bill.
And absolutely no Federal Government option. Oklahoma has a state option and I am against that but am willing to see if it helps.
As the Congressman from South Carolina so elequently put it, reference to Obama concerning illegal aliens, “you’re a liar”! This man who calls himself the President of the United States would not know the truth if it bit him square on the butt. I only have one question for him and the joke of the Vice President, Biden, and the whole Democratic Congress & Senate is if this Health Care Bill is so good for me and my family, they why don’t all you do gooders do away with your current health insurance and be the first ones to sign up for ObamaCare that you’re trying to shove down our throats. Someone might ought to inform Obama that he has already won the White House and there is no more need for the American people to have to continue listening to all his lies and deceptions.
Has anyone looked at the fraud and waste in social security, Medicaid and Medicare? Those are government run programs.. Why would government health car be any different?
I find it hard to believe that Obama will not end up screwing up my Medicare benefits, or anyones health care for that matter.

Obama says,” we are not a Christian nation”, he had no observance of the National Day of Prayer but
they did have an observance of “Ramadan” at the White house……. See anything wrong with this picture? This is only the beginning.
I agree that a government-run health care system would be cost prohibitive, reduce personal incentive to create businesses and be run poorly.
Abortion is the responsibility of the person who became pregnant, not the responsibility of tax-payers. All of us must take responsibility for our personal choices, grow up whether we want to or not.
If each of us in either high, medium or low positions of responsibility lived ethically, with integrity truly caring for others, much of today’s stress and distress could have been avoided. We haven’t come very far in 2000 years after Christ gave His life for us, have we?

Tell Mike Thompson to just leave President Obama alone. Let him do his job without all this nonsence!
Obama is nothing. He tries hard to tell the people that we will be better. All I see is him walking around in casual slacks and jacket when a man is the President he should dress in suits and that would show maybe he has some pride in his job. Obama will end up getting our country in worse shape than it’s in.
Obama did not convince me!!!!!!!!!
Once a lier, always a lier!
“Obama is nothing. . . . All I see is him walking around in casual slacks and jacket when a man is the President he should dress in suits and that would show maybe he has some pride in his job.” You must have Alzheimer’s, Barbara. George W. Bush was in jeans, bike shorts, or golf gear half the time. Oh yeah, but cutting brush at your hundred-acre ranch, mountain biking on your $4,000 bicycle, and golfing in Maine at the country club to which your parents belong are things white people like to do, so it’s okay. That basketball stuff is so, well, uncivilized.
Fact: George W. Bush spent more time on vacation than any President in the history of the United States, easily surpassing Reagan’s previous record. By March 2008, Bush had spent all or part of 879 days at his Crawford ranch or at Camp David, surpassing Reagan’s mark of 866 days. By the time he left office, Bush had made 149 trips to and spent 487 days at Camp David, with another 77 getaways to (and 490 days at) Crawford. Toss in 11 visits and 43 days at his folks’ compound in Kennebunkport, Maine and President Bush spent 1020 days – 35% of his presidency – getting away from the White House. And this was while he had two wars going on and the economy was heading into the tailspin that Obama was left to clean up.
And yet Republicans had a hissy fit when President Obama spent ONE NIGHT with his wife in NYC for dinner and a broadway show to celebrate their anniversary. How unclassy was that? Couldn’t they have gone to one of their vacation homes or something? Oh, wait — they don’t have any.
You say you’re concerned about Obama showing proper respect for the Office of the President but I’m willing to bet you didn’t respect the Office of the President when Obama decided to speak to America’s school children about the importance of working hard, staying in school, and taking responsibility for their actions, nevermind that George H.W. Bush and Ronald Reagan made similar, nationally-broadcast addresses to America’s students. I saddened and amazed by how many Oklahoma parents decided to teach their children to disrespect our system of government by taking their children out of school so they wouldn’t have to listen to the duly-elected President of the United States of America speak. If the reverse had happened under George W. Bush, I suspect that you, Barbara, would’ve been the first one telling those parents, “This is America! Love it or leave it!” and claiming they were unpatriotic and as bad as the terrorists.
I have more thoughts than words. There is no prejudice on my part but no creative or intuitive plan forthcoming on our Politian’s part. Everything I see is a “shooting at the hip” philosophy. This so called plan is any thing but a plan, at least on the face of it. I would do precisely what the president has done thus far, if I had an ulterior motive behind this blind, stubborn, recording of a non creative but highly careless mission. There is certainly nothing fixed by what is on the table, but mounds of assurance that we will strike oil, so to speak. A plan a friend mentioned to me, made so much sense I was in awe. The health care system can work without deficit increases or could even generate income, like we would expect of a business. I would first want to look at a business plan, and unlike this haberdashery, it were presented to me in a sound manner, I might invest in it. Since few in this country have much business since, I expect that is why the president’s approval rating has remained above 10%. I say 10% because that is pretty much considered acceptable waste in any endeaver today. To not explore other suggestions, by some very smart, non Politian, grass roots people, in which a serious solution could come out of numerous ideas, I believe we are on the verge of the biggest blunder our government has ever facilitated if any of the proposals come forward. Have numerous ideas been proposed? Are we so deluded by chrismal that we will jump on the first car that stops, even if the car is full of evil, never do wells with chains and clubs in their hands? I think the country should contribute to the solution because there are many more, older, wiser and more intuitive citizens in this country than people are aware of. Nothing in haste has ever amounted to much good. With that earnest thought off my chest, I wish everybody good will and God Bless.
Just more rhetoric! He and the Pelosi/Reid team with their liberal Democrat colleagues are dangerous to the well-being of this entire country
ii’s time you neo-cons start respecting the POTUS and quit pandering to the ignorant followers of Rush Limbaugh. TRY TO UNITE! NOT DIVIDE! What you and the other neo-cons are doing is almost treason.
A debt of gratitude should be offered to the senior citizens of this country. So many of them were in WW11, Korean War, Vietnam and were willing to pass the torch to the younger people, thinking they would protect and defend our constitution and our country. Then along came the Obomination who was elected primarily by the naive, iliterate and uneducated. Thank God the old people started the new revolution and the younger ones have now joined in when the atrocities of socialism have been shown to them.
For those that say that senior citizens are draining the country, I can tell you that if the politicians had left the money alone as it was supposed to be when it was set up in 1934, the money would be there for the senior citizens without being any kind of drain on the still working people. But with the Democrats knowing that huge pile of money was there, they just could not keep their hands off it.
Don’t mess with old people. We have been quiet too long and have almost let our country go down the drain.
When any President talks, I really don’t listen. There isn’t anything I can do. It doesn’t matter how I feel. My only wish is that the people who we elect for office do a days work for their pay. If you are doing that, then my job as a voter is done.
WE NEED TO BE ADDRESSING MEDICARE AND SOCIAL SECURITY ….WE HAVE HEALTH CARE FOR THE MAJORITY OF PEOPLE THAT REALLY WANT A HEALTH PLAN. BETWEEN MEDICAID, INSURE OKLAHOMA, INDIVIDUAL HEALTH PLANS, V.A., GROUP HEALTH PLANS AND MEDICARE , IF YOU WANT A HEALTH PLAN IN THE STATE OF OKLAHOMA YOU CAN HAVE ONE….IT DEPENDS ON WHAT YOUR PRIORITIES TRULY ARE HERE. WE DO NOT NEED A NATIONALIZED HEALTH PROGRAM FOR UNDER AGE AMERICANS. HELLO….WAKE UP CONGRESS AND FIX MEDICARE FIRST!!!
He is a liar!
I would sit here and compose a diatribe about remarks made on this site, but I just don’t think it would sink in. I do believe that post #43 by Kenny Belford pretty much sums it up in a nutshell. But hey, a few comments can’t hurt!
If this plan would have been proposed by Ronald Reagan, you’d all be lining up to sign on the dotted line without questioning this matter one single bit. Of course, Prez Reagan would never have championed this matter unless it would have made money for his friends. The only health issue that one attributes to the former President, was that he refused to mandate that the Red Cross and all other blood bank suppliers check out their inventory for Hep B and AIDS. All this did was allow numerous heterosexual men and women to become HIV+ because of simple transfusions during various surgeries. This helped spread what might have been a more controlled crisis. A WWII vet acquaintance of mine shared with me his saga that he had to disassociate himself from his friends both in and out of the military because he was afraid they would think he was gay after testing positive soon after heart surgery. Only when he became so fatigued and was not recovering did allow to be tested. He was crushed and embarrassed. A handful of people, including his wonderful wife, were the only ones who knew when he took it to his grave. So let’s be careful when we ask ourselves who is really looking after our best interest.
Somewhere down the road, because you are sitting on your hands and complaining because the “wrong” President is trying to think about the welfare of ALL Americans, YOU will lose a friend because they could not afford to get treated. Their blood will be on your hands.
Just remember one last thing, if CEO’s would have taken care of their workers properly instead of lining their pockets just to be able to say they were Fortune 500, we wouldn’t be in this mess to begin with. Corporate greed and that of insurance companies have made it necessary that we take care of our own since no one will heed God’s will. Remember, to those who much is given, much is expected.
Turn a deaf ear to Rush and Beck and walk in someone else’s shoes and open your minds. Look into AARP sites and others which have nothing to gain. Then ask yourselves this, if Jesus was walking this earth today, would he be for comprehensive health care for all his millions of children? You KNOW this answer to be a resounding YES!
Please be Americans first and Republicans second and let’s get this going so we don’t have to wait yet another decade. I will be paying some medical bills for quite a while when I would rather use this money for my child. So please, if you cannot come up with a comprehensive plan of your own, take what is on the table and let’s move on.
Godspeed!
All this needs to stop!
President Obama didn’t need to convince me. I have common sense and all the name callig has turned me off the Republican party.
Why can’t you have a decent conversation.
I have yet to hear any proposal from them.
You can tell they haven’t even presented a permanent bill yet so don’t jump to conclusion.
If and when they do then it can be dicussed.
Obama is for the people and that is why Senator Kennedy was in support of him. He could see his brother and hisself in him.
I really think the Republican can’t stand a black President and see him accomplish something for this country, I am a white senior citizens and am greatful that we have a person of intelligence in the office.
There are way to many simple minded people in Oklahoma that will not change there minds even if Jesus Christ told them something they are followers of gop propaganda and the insurance money that is out to defeat this reform unless it gives them more money and buissness they are stall tactics and scare tactics they like to say it is socialist medicine so is the VA,medicare ,social security big goverment any one give that back. Have a open mind what is wrong with doing for america do the people in oklahoma think tort reform will make the insurance companies drop there rates not with out mandates and regulations this is for the people not the companies trying to mandate cost, coverage Death panels are the insurance companies now. Oklahoma has a lame duck congress and a lame senate that is not the majority and will be left out in the cold and end up hurting the state with there stubborn stupid closed up minds. Wake Up

Did any of you people even listen to the speech? You’re comments are so far off base, it appears you don’t hear anything that is being said. You have your minds made up, and will not even listen to the plans. You don’t offer any other possible suggestions, only criticism of what some are trying to change. Change is necessary and our president may not have the perfect solution, but at least he is trying. I have been embarrassed to be an Oklahoman the last few months with the attitudes and opinions that are being published. Makes us look uneducated and antiquated. Come on people, lets make this country better and come together. OK so you don’t like the president, get over it, he is the president for now and we have to work together.
I am proud to be a citizen of Oklahoma, I am not uneducated, and I am not antiquated and it is my suggestion that anyone that fees they are should move to another state. With that out of the way one statement was made by the writer and by Obama (Obama was lying the writer may simply be uninformed). YOU DON”T OFFER ANY OTHER POSSIBLE SUGGESTIONS. Talk about uneducated and uniformed this is the stupidest statement out there. Here are a few things WIDELY OFFERED by the so called “other side”.
Do a realistic tort reform to control the wild lawsuits against doctors and hospitals, something like loser pays etc.
Put in the health bill that someone must PROVE they are a US citizen before they can be covered by ANY healthcare.
Allow people and companies to purchase insurance across state lines (some states have only one insurance co. to purchase from) some competition HUH!!
Correct the oulandish claims from the braindead Democrats that 48 to 50 million people do not have insurance. This number includes people, who do no want insurance, illegal aliens or undocumented workers as the Democrats call them. The real number is about 12 million people who are citizens have no insurance and want it. Are you kidding me! We can easily cover 12 million people with the savings on these three things. Your good buddy OBAMA whos is a lying fascist and a union toady has put thumbs down on all thes (and many other)suggestions by the other side.
You are correct I do not like the President but it is for several reasons none of which has anything to do with him being half black. I got the impression that was what you meant about not liking him. Here are my reasons.
He is a union toady, he said as much himself. He is supported by the unions big time and that is not good for this country.
He has all his records education, birth certificate, records of contributions etc, etc, etc, sealed and I do not care for that. Before you call me a “birther” I do believe he was born in Hawaii.
He sat in a church with a rabble rousing preacher spouting “GOD DAM AMERICA” for twenty years yet claims he never heard it. Again either an idiot or a liar. I have a pastor I love and respect very much and if the words God Dam America ever came out, I would at once leave the church.
He made the statement (since recanted because of political pressure but he meant it) that he thinks members of the Armed Forces should have to carry insurance to cover their war injuries because after all we have an all voluntary force now and they knew what they were signing up for. Now, that one statement alone (because I am retired from the US Armed Forces) means I do not EVER vote for the person that said that and I do not need to know their color.
Last but not least he is beyound doubt the biggest liar I have ever heard speak, he makes Bill (i did not have swx with that women) Clinton look like a choir boy. My dear departed Mother had an old country saying about liars that I have never forgotten I quote: HE WILL CLIMB A TREE TO TELL A LIE BEFORE HE WILL STAND ON THE GROUND AND TELL THE TRUTH. Old sayin, yes, aniquated pehaps, uneducated no, truth yes. I think our idiot President spends way to much time up a tree and not on the ground listening to people.
I am convinced that every Senator and Representative (Congress) should be defeated by any person running for their office!!!!!. It is time that we American Taxpayers and citizens should take our country back from the socialistic self serving, low moraled criminals that are supposed to be our representatives in Washington…..Re-elect no one will be the battle cry from now on from the Silent Majority……Pack your bags your days in office are limited………A veteran and a registered voter………
I feel that Obama is extremely dangerous. I don’t see any proof of government spending being curbed. I know from experience that this health care he talks about has to be paid for somehow. I do not believe it can be self sufficient! Canada’s health care is a dismal failure. The healthcare in the UK is a dismal failure. I know people in both countries that will tell you that fact. They work in healthcare in both places and socialized medicine does not work. It is expensive and the quality of the health care is poor. Look at the government track record. Anything the government tries to run is a disaster and expensive for those of us who work. I pay a lot of taxes so that a lot of other people may have health care right now in addition to paying for my own healthcare! What is fair about that? Obama’s proposal is just trying to blow more smoke up our skirts!!! He is doing nothing but blaming other people for his troubles and has shown me very little evidence that his way will be better. Anytime the government gets involved there will be a problems. Obama has been groomed from the start by Muslims and Chicago criminals to be right where he is today. He has no life experience or business sense to guide him as a president. He is a puppet and all the wrong people are pulling the strings. He has never even held a real job in his entire life, not even managing a McDonalds. And now he is running our country! I am terrified about the prospect of all the damage he will do and has already done. We are forced to deal with his idiocy for 3.5 more years. He is a liar! Where is the so-called transparency? What do the American people really know about him? Nothing except what he and his hired help tell us. He is the closest thing to the anti-christ as the bible describes it that I have seen. He needs to stop trying to be a rock star and act more like our survent. All politicians are supposed to serve the people, not vice versa.
Mr. Merriman —
It’s frankly nauseating how casually you overlook Prez Bush’s blatanat lies about Saddam Hussein’s connection to 9/11 and his possession of WMDs — lies Bush and members of his administration repeated to the American people with straight faces in order to whip us up into such a patriotic frenzy we would unquestioningly support what was (and is) a totally unnecessary war against a stable (though corrupt) Iraqi regime, the only country that was strong enough to keep Iran in check (yes, that’s right, we expended American blood and treasure to get rid of Iran’s worst enemy and destabilize the entire region).
Bush’s lies caused the deaths of thousands of American soldiers, hundreds of thousands of innocent Iraqi civilians, and — most importantly from my perspective in terms of pointing out your hypocrisy– cost billions upon billions upon billions of dollars, all of which we borrowed from China and our grandchildren will still be paying the interest on (because God forbid any of Bush’s wealthy supporters should have to sacrifice one hot dime to support the war; or that any of their children should fight it; no, they were content to let the “little people” do the soldiering — the ones without trust funds and vacation homes).
Where were the tea parties then?!?!
The following facts are indisputable: Bush inherited a $230 billion budget SURPLUS from Clinton.
But, after Bush signed a $1.35 trillion tax cut in 2001, then a $1.5 trillion tax cut in 2003 — which resulted in middle-income earners paying more in taxes while people making over $1 million paid less, with the biggest benefits going to the top 1% of income earners in this country. Bush is the first and only president ever to DECREASE taxes during wartime —
AND
started and funded two wars (one of which was totally unnecessary and resulted in us taking our eye off of Afghanistan, where Al Qaeda and the Taliban have now regained power) —
AND
signed a bill to bail out American banks to the tune of $700 BILLION (yes, that happened while BUSH was President last fall), which he felt was necessary because due to the financial crisis, which was created by his administration’s policy of deregulation of the banking industry and its general lax oversight of anything having to do with commerce —
the budget deficit ballooned to over $1 TRILLION during eight years of Bush.
Where was the outrage then?!?! Apparently nothing that Bush did bothers you one bit. To you, the next biggest liar after Obama is Prez Clinton because he lied about being unfaithful to his wife.
You, sir, need to get your priorities straight.
Ms. Capris
As with most people who hate Bush, your argument appears to be based on something you heard rather than the facts.
The largest legislative action in financial services during the Bush years was the Sarbanes-Oxley Act, which INCREASED REGULATION and drove capital markets overseas. The Government Accountability Office, (non-partisan) reported the Securities and Exchange Commission only relaxed 8 regulatory burdens out of 23 major regulatory actions ($100 million +) during the Bush Administration.
President Clinton lessened regulatory burdens in ALMOST HALF of rulemaking proceedings during his administration. Furthermore, it was Bill Clinton who signed off on the Gramm-Leach-Bliley Act which ended the prohibition on banks and allowed them to engage in the securities business, which ultimately caused the financial meltdown.
Again, Senate Banking Chairman Chris Dodd, a Democrat, received more campaign cash from Fannie Mae and Freddie Mac than anyone, and in 2003, old boy Barney Frank, another Democrat and the House Banking Chairman, said, “Fannie Mae and Freddie Mac — are not facing any kind of financial crisis.†Oh really?
Finally, for those of you who are still whining about what Obama inherited, President Bush only signed off on $350 of the $700 Billion until President OBAMA MADE THE DECISION and asked Bush to sign off on the second $350 Billion. And by the way, who do you think was in the Senate and had the final vote on that bill? The Senate, of which Barak Obama was a member. President Obama didn’t inherit anything Senator Obama didn’t contribute to.
To learn more about who’s responsible for our economy’s failure, look at http://www.heritagefoundation.org on Thursday, 10/23/2008.
As far as the Iraq war goes, experts speak a different story about the connection of Al Quaeda to Iraq than do the networks. Watch the Bill Moyers program on the pbs.org for Friday, 9/11/09.
At least Bush didn’t activate the slumbering military draft. Oh, my dear, but don’t worry, President Obama will be the next JFK and LBJ. The draft is coming–make no mistake.
As far as Joe Wilson’s shout out-that was rude—but no more so than when Nancy Pelosi publicly called President Bush a liar—just as when the Democrats in Congress booed President Bush during the state of the Union Speech.
This whole idea that some people have in their head that the Republicans are stupid immoral beasts is nonsense. The Democrats are just as bad.
And for the record, George W. Bush had more courage than anyone who currently serves in Obama’s administration-excepting our military men and women.
It looks to me like Mr. Merriman not only has a good handle on his priorities, but you Madam-you need to get your facts straight.
The President still did not address the terrible cost of his plan. He also didn’t address other concerns. He simply repeated the same thoughts and ideas, as if he says them often enough they will become true.
Using Medicare as an example of how well the government can manage a national plan would make me laugh if the idea weren’t so devastating. The bureaucracy is overwhelming. Decisions are made for medical care by non-medical people. The system is awkward and unwieldy. Also, Medicare is not free to those who are on the plan either. We pay a premium each month, which is withheld from our social security checks, and we have to pay for a supplement plan, which is very expensive.
i think if you will follow in the foot steps of mary fallin you will be the right guy. but, no, i wasn’t convinced by the president!!!!!!!!!!!!! i is a markist, comunist, a
I have a new threat to my health to worry about right now. My healthcare provider, HealthChoice, the state of Oklahoma, is doubling my copay on office visits and meds to save the state money.
I am a teacher in bankruptcy, in danger of losing my home and already find it difficult to meet the copay cost of my healthcare. I put off office visits and don’t take meds on weekends as well as delay filling them. I accept responsibilty for my present situation, but as I age, there is little I can do.
There is nothing in this bill for me. And now my own state is against me. I would like to see some help for those insured but unable to meet their own needs. I am trying to pay my own way but teachers have not had a raise here in over two years and healthcare has continued to go up. My insurance company is cutting benefits and now wish to double copays. My district pays my basic premium but nothing else is available to me.
There is nothing for the basic middle class that I can see. Thanks for the chance to vent.

I fail to see why we need a “government run” medical insurance option. Isn’t that what medicare/medicaid are? The only thing I’ve seen from government run programs is more room for abuse of the program/system and no oversite to correct the abuse. Government run programs are not efficient (i.e. postal service, medicare/medicaid, social security) nor is it easy to implement a cost savings for the government. I can only agree with the proposal of creating competition between medical insurance providers much like the competition between the auto insurance companies.
Thank You Rep Mike for sending this out and letting us know you will be fighting against this government health care bill!
We don’t need government in our lives when it comes to our choices about health care. It would be disasterous! Please stop Obama in all that he is doing. He is leading into the NWO and that isn’t good. Well we are in the NWO and we aint seen nothing yet! Things are going to get much worse. You, Rep Mike, you know these things. We need you to continue to fight for Oklahoma.
Rep Mike, we need you to fight against any mandotory vaccinations too! I would like the choice to self quarantine. I believe that this pandemic is biowarfare created by our government to take some of us out! The government has been softly poisening us for too long! Please stand up against this, and please do not have them vaccinating children at schools. If you don’t realize how dangerous this is Rep Mike, I invite you to do some research.
Vaccines are no good, especially given without testing. Who wants mercury, swine, bird, and other poisenous chemicals to go into their body to slowly kill them or sometimes quickly kill them! Protect us Rep Mike and if you are one that is for this, I beg you to do your homework.
Thanks
No one should go broke or die because they don’t have health care. That’s the bottom line. The cost of health care is ruining our economy and making us non-competitive in the global economy. Health care costs cannot be sustained.
Every year 18000 people in the U.S. die because they lack health care. Every year 100,000 people in the US die from hospital errors.
A health plan had to cover both cost and quality. God has better things to do (reading others responses) than worry about your infected tonsils.
WE HAVE TO STOP OBAMA
Dear CR:
If you want to talk facts, please don’t send me to the Heritage Foundation’s website. That would be like me sending you to PETA or Atheists for America or some such nonsense. You may think you have your facts straight, but that’s because a conservative think tank has pre-straightened them for you.
It’s politifact.com and factcheck.org for me, thank you very much. They provide the nonpartisan, un-spun, ugly truth. The stuff Republicans hate. The always entertaining “Pants on Fire” rulings at politifact.com provide some clues as to why:
http://politifact.com/truth-o-meter/rulings/pants-fire/
For the record, Obama is not proposing nationalized health care. The way Rep. Thompson has framed the question is purposefully misleading and meant to scare people into spouting “Communist! Socialist! Nazi! Fascist!” as if those terms were interchangable.
Everyone: Do yourselves a favor. Don’t let talk-show hosts and pundits tell you what to think. They’re in the business of selling advertising time. Instead, read the facts and decide for yourselves. Please see:
http://www.factcheck.org/2009/04/government-run-health-care/
and all the other articles on that site that distinguish between fact and fiction in this debate.
The truly scary, and undeniable, truth is, if we don’t do anything to reform our current system, health insurance premiums could almost double by 2020, according to a recent report by the Commonwealth Fund, a 90-year-old non-profit health care charity:
http://www.commonwealthfund.org/Content/Publications/Data-Briefs/2009/Aug/Paying-the-Price-How-Health-Insurance-Premiums-Are-Eating-Up-Middle-Class-Incomes.aspx
Also, despite all these knee-jerk “We’re Number 1!” shouts you’re hearing in defense of our current system, don’t be fooled. The truth of the matter is “We’re Number 37!” according to the latest World Health Organization study. We’re the wealthiest country in the world, but in terms of healthcare, we’re sandwiched between the likes of Costa Rica and Slovenia. We should be ashamed that a country as troubled as Colombia is fifteen places ahead of us!

Remember, too, that the Right made the same arguments and used the same scare tactics in opposition to Medicare back in 1964, predicting it would turn the United States into a socialist nation and our children and grandchildren would have to dream about what it was like to be free (I’m butchering a Reagan quote from the era, but he said it and opposed providing healthcare to senior citizens; look it up). But, guess what? It didn’t happen then, won’t happen now (even if Obama were proposing nationalized healthcare, which he isn’t!)
The corporate insurance interests want you to think reforming healthcare would be scary and bad. That’s because their primary business is protecting profits, not people. Think about it: Just where do they come up with the millions of dollars they shower on lobbyists and members of Congress? By denying your claims, jacking up premiums and steadily increasing the cost of malpractice insurance.
I no nlonger trust ANYONE, I also kmow that no matter what happens with this bill, i will be no better off today than I was yesterday. Many of things broken cannot be fixed, and the Government is the last place i think we will find help. I just know, I need Health Insurance in the worst way,
Just so you all know, whoever Rep. Thompson has monitoring this page removed my most recent post — the one in which I charge him with misleading everyone in the way he frames the question. “Did Obama convince you about nationalized healthcare?”
OBAMA IS NOT PROPOSING NATIONALIZED, GOVERNMENT-RUN HEALTHCARE!!! That’s what exists in Canada and Great Britain, where the doctors are actually government employees.
Apparently, Mike Thompson doesn’t want you to know this, because then you might side with doctors and patients rather than monied, corporate insurance interests.

What’s your proposal to solve the crisis Rep. Thompson?
Ms. Capris-
The only comments that have not been approved have been profane or contained language that’s not becoming of a serious discussion.
As you’ll notice, there are many comments Rep. Thompson deeply disagrees with that are posted on the site. With an issue as serious as health care, all points of view ought to be respected and heard. A big part of our current problem, with health care and many other issues, is Washington turning a deaf ear to taxpayers.
We can all agree our health care system needs serious reform. Rep. Thompson favors a private sector approach that focuses on less bureaucracy and reforms focused on improving choice, portability and accountability. However, all voices deserved to be heard, including yours.
I think the poll question is wrong. Obama isn’t “pushing for nationalized healthcare.” That would be a system like they have in Canada or England where the doctors are employed by the government. Obama has flat-out rejected that idea and there’s nothing in the bill that would lead to such a thing. He has proposed — but it’s unclear if he still supports — having a public health insurance option. That would just involve making the health insurance Rep. Thomas has available to the rest of us. The thinking is, if the private insurers have a public insurance plan to compete with, they’ll keep their prices lower to stay competitive.
As I understand it, the main things Obama wants health insurance reform to do is make it so insurance companies can’t refuse to cover pre-existing conditions and can’t drop you from coverage when you get sick. I’m all for that. What about you, Rep. Thompson? I honestly don’t know where you stand on that one.
In order for insurance companies to not go broke as a result (although that’s pretty hard to imagine), they’re going to need a lot more people — healthy people in particular — paying premiums into the system, which will require some sort of mandate that everyone in the U.S. buy into some sort of insurance plan, even if it’s just a catastrophic plan with a $5,000 deductible or something.
Just as Oklahoma and the federal government does with SoonerCare, lower income people will have to have help paying for this mandatory insurance. No big deal, we do that already.
Obama also wants it so health insurance can be portable — meaning, just because you lose your job, you don’t lose your health insurance. You can keep it if you continue paying the premiums. My brother’s a diabetic and he can never leave his current job because he’d never get insurance anywhere else because it’s a pre-existing condition. He could probably make more money somewhere else, too.
I agree the cost issue is the biggest problem, and that no one on either side of the aisle has come up with a complete solution yet. Who knows if they ever will or it’ll be smoke and mirrors like always. Remember, Bush never included the cost of the wars in his budgets — like we wouldn’t notice or something.
Republicans don’t want to raise taxes, Democrats don’t want to cut benefits. Republicans don’t mind adding to the national debt to pay for war, but they don’t support it if it’s for healthcare here at home. Go figure.
All I know is something’s got to change because no one is going to be able to afford any sort of health insurance here in the next couple years. We’ll all be waiting to go to the ER until we’re in critical condition and expecting the hospitals or the states or the federal gov’t to pick up the tab. Ain’t that a cheery thought.
Calling each other names isn’t going to solve the problem, though. This is serious, folks.
Thank you, Mr. Parsons, for explaining your system for monitoring posts. I appreciate the information.
To explain my concern: When I looked at the posts earlier today the one I wrote yesterday did not appear, although several posts written by other people after I wrote mine did. This caused me to jump to the conclusion that you censored my post when, in fact, you were only “moderating” it.
Perhaps the fact that I disagree with Rep. Thompson means all my posts get a red flag before you publish them. It’s your website, that’s your prerogative, but Rep. Thompson does represent all the Oklahomans in his district, whether they agree with him or not, so I think it’s only fair to let all his consituents express their views — the ones that are printable, at any rate.
You are now showing all my posts in their entirety and I appreciate that. For the record, I have never — and would never — use profanity in this or any other serious political discussion.
I thank you for your consideration.
Ms. Capris,
You’re right in saying elected officials represent more than just those on the same side. As a staunch conservative, I support Mike Thompson for Congress because he doesn’t waver in his core beliefs, but is always willing to listen to all sides. I think many, on both sides, could learn by listening to all honest, tax-paying, law-obeying citizens.
I know Mike Thompson to be a steadfast conservative, but he has insisted that all honest opinions are heard. I wish more citizens would join you and the others who have voted and commented. Washington needs to listen, and the best way to make them listen is to voice our opinions.
Ms. Capris
As with most people who hate Republicans, you’ appear to be good at slinging insults.
As far as the Heritage Foundation, if you want to talk turkey, you probably disagree with Heritage because your own thinking was “prestraightened” by some liberal politician, or possibly some personal injury you suffered under a Republican administration. Somebody didn’t do what you wanted them to do.
As far as the nonpartisan ugly truth, you need to listen to the words that come straight out of “the horses mouth” so to speak. You then would form your opinions based on reality. While factcheck and politicfact are great sources of information, they still can’t beat hearing the politicians speak the words that give cause for continued concern-or occasional relief.
While I think Joe Wilson embarrassed himself for calling the President a liar-the President called a whole lot of people liars with his own statement during that joint session in Congress. For that, perhaps Mr. Obama should apologize to the nation.
With one exception, I stand by my previous post. I incorrectly noted pbs.org with Bill Moyers. The correct reference is Washington Week with Gwen Ifel on Friday, Sept 11.
And as long as the Democratic party continues to enable a system of entitlement and welfare mentality in our nation, I will continue to be a registered Republican.
Please, stop this bill!. We need brave and honest politicians. The Democratic party is pushing to make our country a socialist state, yet so many elected Republicans are doing so little. They say they are trying, but many seem so afraid to do anything. We have had brave men throughout our history give their lives for our country, we now need Republicans to be willing to put their reputations and careers on the line for what is right. Please, do the right thing and let your colleagues know this as well. We are no longer talking politics, we are talking about if our children will live in a free country or not. We already have a lot less freedoms than when I was young. It is time for the Republican party to “serious up.”
Note: 92. Gregg Myers is wishful thinking. Obama and friends have made it clear what they want in many of their speeches. They are careful to say what they truly believe in front of smaller groups of avid supporters, but many of these speeches have leaked out. They want a health care like Canada and the UK or worse apparently at all costs. The real reason why I believe? Because they must pay back those that got them elected. Certain of their friends were apparently very upset with Hillary when she did not get this through under Bill. There are allegedly multi-billions of dollars at stake for their “friends,” not to mention the power over the American people. That is why one could easily conclude they will ram this thing through no matter what the public says. Obama may be only a one term Pres., but he knows who are the ones that will take care of him and his family for the rest of his life. Unfortunately, it seems many of our Republican friends are getting paid from the same people. This has seemed to cloudy up the waters of who to believe. Please, Mr. Thompson, do not let this be you.
Mr. Thompson, please, also check into the possible illegal ties and conflict of interests Obama has with the banking industry. The recent policies are systematically putting out of business so many small banks that are being taken over and consolidated into the larger banks. Some of those profiting larger banks Obama is allegedly invested in or has ties to. This is possibly more detrimental than the Socializing of the Health Care.
Rush Limbaugh just says it how it is…no crap, no prettying it up…just saying it!
Hi there could I reference some of the information from this post if I reference you with a link back to your site?
This is really among the most fascinating blogs I have seen. It’s so easy to tune out, but there is absolutely still some great stuff on the internet, and I believe your blog is seriously one of the few!
I feel you are too good to write Genius! Thanks for posting, maybe we can see more on this.
